he came from the north, by way of the sea. already his journey had been long. from the foothills, out west, over the grand sweep of mountains that barricaded his brothers from the far-reaches of the sea. crossing, before the winter came, and the snow fell along the pass, and so, making travel harsher than ever need be.

it had been summer when they had started, and now, leaves peeled from the trees and blanket the land in a sheet of gold and rust. he had found this land by purposeful accident. purposeful, because he had chosen to go south. accident, because he had not known what sort of land he would find here, and more importantly, what sort of people he would come across, by not choosing north. but he was on his third night here, and he already found the land rich with ghost trails of prey, promising plenty. and as the sun set and the moon settled into its course, he found the air rife with wolf-sound, calls which set his heart in a conflicted state of anticipation and fear.

but these voices were far from him, indecipherable, and though he feared, he calmed himself and sought the worries he had yet to attend: that he was hungry, and he was tired - such simple worries to fix! and so the boy set off after one of these plentiful trails of prey, and found solace in the knowing that he was not alone, for his brothers, he thought, though far from him and where he had come, ran beneath the very same stars.
