Brockleigh lingered at the entrance to the den, wide eyes gazing at the outside world. She was not yet old enough to explore on her own, despite her curious heart desiring to do exactly that. She had at least learned to stand, to walk, and to whine when she was hungry, which all served her well enough. But the rebellion of going outdoors was tempting. Today, unsure whether or not her mother was nearby watching, the little girl felt a streak of rebellion, and took a tiny step outside. With only one step, she stumbled over her own disproportionally large paws, falling on her face with her chin hitting the ground in a thump. Perhaps that was a sign from the universe to just stop here.

Carl was, of course, nearby. Despite how much he screeched and screamed about his sister being close and either looking at him or breathing too closely, he would also throw a full fit if she was out of his sight.

It was a complicated life.

So he was right at her flank in a second when she fell, hovering over her with wide, bulging eyes. Carlisle fumbled over his own paws as he circled around his sister like a circling vulture, only keeping his feet by the grace of some unseen god.

After a few circles, he would stop. Stare. And reach out with his muzzle to try and gently push his sister over, his method of “helping”.

Brockleigh lied there for a few uneventful moments, until something was nudging at her side. She was lazy for a moment and didn’t budge much except for his pushes, but eventually that grew bored and she knew she ought to get back on her feet to confront whatever alien thing was poking at her. It was difficult, but with the help of the nudging she found her footing again, shaking her head as if to throw off the dust of the fall. Blue eyes locked onto her assistant- ah, the other milk-drinker whom she shared the den with. She squinted at him, with an expression that was hard to read. And then slowly, dropped into a play-stance rather clumsily, placing one paw at a time in the right spot, gazing up at him as if asking for a rough-and-tumble.
