beneath the light of a growing moon, skorpa dragged out the caribou pelt. he had filled two otter bellies with the teaberry and the moss; now he stretched the bearskin against warming ground and began to pile things upon it.

@Moon Runner was asked next, a single summoning note.

"war come to darukaal and saatsine. ayovi want stay — there. to heal."

his jaws shredded.

"i go and come back. there. forth. back. here. elowen have baby. lorcan thrown off if he fight. winsook need watching, lydløssne."

A call. She arrived.

Moon Runner watched Grim Tooth with curiosity. A tilt of of the head, now and again, as he gathered things. It reminded her of the white salt wolf with the branches she had met atop the plateau.

But, unlike him, Grim Tooth’s demeanor was serious. His autumn-bright eyes flat with pensiveness. Distant. She did not know language, or exactly what of he spoke, but his behavior was unnatural.

A whine trilled from Moon Runner’s throat. It went against her instinct to see the pack separate.

"hm. well. i not like either," skorpa grunted, finding kinship in silentsnow's misgiving. "but she come back here. for baby."

a broad paw motioned. "she ask me to bring. i give medicine for elowen baby. i speak lorcan. now i go. you stay? or come?" skorpa inquired, trying to pitch his tone for easier understanding.

he was not a nursemaid, and he did not wish to be gone from ayovi long. the mountain would be better served by the quiet pale woman, but he would not order her to stay. this was a choice.
