The story with the sister was a little confusing to Charon, but he nodded absently as he waded through it. When she finished, he wondered, "Why didn't you return to your pack then?" At least he assumed from her earlier words that she had left from her home pack because of her sister. If Charon would've had such an ungrateful sister he'd probably have just gone back home afterwards. But maybe she had just been young and wanted something different, something for herself.

The trail they were following came alongside a creek, and Charon stopped there, leaning down to the water to drink because all this talking'd made him thirsty.
