It was evening when she entered the glen. The fire had not abated; around her, as she wove between the trees, she could spy the dancing lights that gave the area its name. It was like strolling through constellations. Utterly charmed by the scenery, Ibis did not immediately notice that something—or perhaps someone—was lurking beyond her periphery. The scent that hung about her was so heavy now that everything else faded away. She ached in ways she could not name, hungry for physical contact and attention, but the stars drifting through her path could give her neither.
