Ravensblood Forest I feel like a ghost

All he could hear was the blood pounding in his ears like the waves of the sound.
The sucking, swooshing and crashing all concurrent events along the water's edge.
But he wasn't at the sound.

More tears fell as he lay in the forest.
Footsteps brushed in over the sound of the ocean, but Derg had not the strength or inclination to lift his head. He hoped it was a bear or cougar, ready to eat him.
A voice, strictly Lupine, and with heavy male baritones, he'd not heard before.

He lifted his head, looking at the stranger.
His mouth parted to speak, but only gaped like a fish.
Gawping and struggling to form a word.
What would he say?

You're alone
The snakish voice of Caiaphas struck him - why was he hearing her? - and caused him to shut his mouth, lips trembling.
Alone, the voice of the sea-witch hissed, seething with anger.

More tears bubbled over his eyes, blurring his vision to make the looming man look more bear-like than he already did.
