when the prophet woke, she was elsewhere.
no. beyond. a place of twilight and murk, blue and green and shadow looming, pressing close. the listener rose on trembling legs. she heard the hissing pulse of her breath. the wild drum of her heart.
it was silent, so silent. the spirits. where are the spirits? their song. their whispers. she was alone, alone, empty, abandoned,
the evergloam.
the darkness shifted.
shrieking, pleading,
have you forgotten?
the price
the murk parted and bled gold. light. heat. sunfire seeping into her eyes, her mouth, her ears. her god. she could feel her god. she could see —
the light swallowed her.
she screamed.
the otherworld.
no. beyond. a place of twilight and murk, blue and green and shadow looming, pressing close. the listener rose on trembling legs. she heard the hissing pulse of her breath. the wild drum of her heart.
alone.
it was silent, so silent. the spirits. where are the spirits? their song. their whispers. she was alone, alone, empty, abandoned,
lost. lost in the evergloam.
the evergloam.
the darkness shifted.
who are you?cracked through dry throat, bloody mouth, eyes wild and darting and aching. the shadows hummed.
show me. show me — god. my god. show me!
SHOW ME!
shrieking, pleading,
have you forgotten?
have you forgotten what it feels like?
the price
of divinity.
let me show you.
the murk parted and bled gold. light. heat. sunfire seeping into her eyes, her mouth, her ears. her god. she could feel her god. she could see —
the light swallowed her.
she screamed.
dated for the night of the ritual
