Arielle felt the brute's teeth in her scruff and almost released her hold. But she pushed the pain from her mind and kept her teeth firmly in his skin.

She heard Merrick's call but was unable to wriggle out from under the giant of a wolf that still pinned her hips to the ground. So she settled for tearing further into his neck to see if it would budge him. Even though it would worsen her own wound, she vigorously shook her head, tearing away only when she felt Aves push between them. She felt relief only a few seconds before the bruin-jaw commanded her to go. 

She wrestled with the idea of ignoring him and continuing her assault on the Rivenwood wolf, and she might have had they not been summoned to leave by the bear king. 

Her mate grabbed hold of the man's forearm and pulled with his whole body. Even in the midst of the fight, she could tell he was badly injured. Rage burned hot in her chest. She wished she could do more than she already had, but she knew she had to go and now that she was able to free herself, she had to run. The longer she waited, the longer Aves would be subject to the large man's teeth. She lingered only long enough to bite into his chest and tear out a large chunk of flesh. Then she turned and ran, praying the whole time that she would soon hear the bruin-jaw running beside her.
