Svalinn woke up every day in the Sound just a little more annoyed than he had been the previous day. His anxiety was gearing towards a tipping point, and though he had faced incredible loss before, the growing idea that his daughters may never turn up again was putting him on edge like never before.
On top of this, there was an infinite tide of strangers venturing into this devil’s den: giving birth here, copulating here, loitering here, washing up here. It drove him mad.
He paced more than he walked.
This morning was different in that when he saw another face, it was finally someone he knew. A sense of relief edged back the worry behind his eyes.

Val,he called out, tail high and waving as he trotted up.
You alright?he asked, rather than invade his newphew’s personal space to investigate that fact for himself. He had great affection for Val, but they weren’t that familiar with one another.
