surprised, he bit down harder, which only leveraged the thing further open. the twins dropped their collective oyster; luce can have it, he reasoned, always conflict-averse.

but there was something very special about this particular selection.

lucette, the boy whispered, bending low. there were not one but two pearls nestled within, tucked together by fate and fortune. he glanced at her, green gaze full of light. just like us, non?

the nearest pearl to him was of middling size and cloaked in an ethereal peach color that reminded him of the prettiest shells on the beach. lafayette gently plucked it from the oyster and then placed it at his forepaws, staring down as if it was the most miraculous thing he had seen.

but what did it mean?!
