More and more, Junkyard Dog's instincts urged her to leave. She had already determined that this one was a temptress, worse for the fact that Scarlett was offering her such sweet temptations. When the wolf began to lose her patience, telling her she should just accept the offer, Junkyard Dog understood that as the wolf's frustration that her attempts to lure the dog in were failing.

This theory seemed to solidify with the cruel words of the beast. Junkyard Dog barked, a wordless sound of vitriol. How dare she! When she had served her Man, she had been good. The Men of the lab gave them no praise, for they were of a different breed, as like as dogs and wolves to Junkyard Dog. Her Man had been good and kind, and the Men of the lab had been fell wolves on two legs.

At the final offer of food (and oh how it tempted her!) she shook her head violently. Wordlessly, Junkyard Dog turned, slinking back into the shadows of the underbrush. When she thought she was out of view, she spent the precious energy running, returning to where the rest of hers were resting. Shaken, she found comfort in the midst of their numbers.
