With the dawn came another day and all Liri wanted was to remain where she was at Kavik's side. In the warmth of their den it was easy to ignore the most recent developments within their pack.

Still, she could not hide from the world.

The healer slipped from the atrium, wanting to be alone with the apathy that had settled in her bones. Snow blanketed the ground in pale patches, the muted shades of forest and earth peeking through.

She took to the boundaries, as far as she could be from the others, to patrol. It gave her something to do but unfortunately it left her mind to wander back to the confrontation with Grezig.

Her dismissal had not been intended for cruelty though she knew some of the others that had been gathered might have found her blatant, emotionless refusal to be cold or even weak.

Yet, they didn't know the entirely of the conflict and the Alpha couldn't find it in herself to care what they thought of a situation that wasn't their business. The hunter could barely find it in her to care about anything right now.

All things considered, Liri thought she had handled it well. After everything that had happened, what had the Beta expected? She wasn't the same wolf Liri had said goodbye to, the one she had comforted for loving a man that wasn't hers to love. Somewhere along her journey, Grezig's heart had hardened and blackened against the healer.

Grezig had practically admitted the only reason she wanted to spar was because she couldn't accept the fact that Kavik was Liri's - that she didn't respect their marriage or even Liri. Could the leader really be blamed for refusing to partake in Grezig's emotional whims?

She'd been willing to forgive and forget, give the Beta space to move on from Kavik. In time, Liri had hoped everything would return to normal. Some part of her had even foolishly clung to the idea that she and Grezig could be on good terms again.

It was clear that wasn't going to happen and Liri wasn't interested in helping a woman who detested her figure out her own issues, not after all the hurt she had caused Liri.

Fuck that, the thought came unbidden.

The whole thing had left her feeling numb. Shaking her head, the Alpha tried to stop thinking about it. She just wanted to be left alone for once.

As the pale fae reached the outcrop overlooking the Flatlands she paused in her duties and settled on the edge to watch the snow gently falling. It was a white, mute world and she desperately wished it could block out the turmoil within her.
"i'll keep you here when I lose my mind."
