“She must be too dumb,” Sylianos hypothesized, putting together the pieces in his head until the picture he painted of Towhee Jr was one of incompetence. He concluded that the poor thing behaved like a freak because she was too stupid to be normal.

A part of him felt bad for picking on someone so useless, but mostly he felt empowered to stand with his brother against someone who was already a detriment to society. They would grow up having to feed Towhee Jr and communicating for her, because by herself she was inept and would surely perish. Even at his tender young age, Sylianos had no interest in charity work.

He snapped his jaws together and feigned for Towhee Jr’s other side, only to stop and crouch down at his father’s booming bark from behind. Flattening his ears, the boy turned to look up at Arsenio, whose blue eyes veritably blazed in his head now that he realized what his unruly sons were about. The man didn’t need to say a word.

Sylianos knew to continue was to invite trouble upon his own head. He gave Towhee Jr one last dirty look, then slunk back to his father with his tail tucked.
