Nemesis had delivered her pups; four squirming, mewling taters that pulled from their parents' coats and jumbled them all together on their own. Her sister had not, but Potema knew that she would be due soon; by next moon most likely. She brought gi: herbs for Althalia (chervile and watermint for bellyache, daisy leaves, ragwort and goldenrod for aching joints) and food for both of them to share (a fairly large pheasant). She wasn't sure if Nemesis needed borage to help her produce more milk, but as she entered the den through the hidden tunnel and saw the pups cuddled by her side, looking plump and content, she pushed the thought aside.

Hello, She said, dropping the bundle of herbs (which she had already chewed to make it easier for Althalia to swallow) and the pheasant. She nudged the pheasant towards them, then brought the herbs to Althalia. This is a poultice with chervile, watermint, daisy, ragwort and goldenrod. This was her way of testing the new recruit to see how much she really knew about herbs. If she knew at least one or two of the plants, she would know their purpose. If not, ah well.

While the girl had no concept of time, she felt like it had been forever. Without her bath of beauty, she had nothing to do than drink out of her claimed nipple and sleep. Her dreams were more nothing- mind too small to know there was a whole world to explore. Beside her she felt more movement, sometimes a poke from one of her siblings, but they didn't interest her just yet. And neither did whoever was here in the nothingness with her, including her mother. This was extremely boring, and she couldn't wait to see if there was something more to being alive.
