there was a tempest brewing on the horizon; there had been for some time. unbeknownst to govinda, his chikni raat had felt it coming. he had not. not until the winds picked up to something torrential did he feel it in the marrow of his bones, the sense of all that was wrong. the primal urge to cut and run--and not like he had before.

aasman pe hai khuda

the palms were meant to bend, not snap. and bend they did, arcing with the gusts, their barren fronds whipping along horizontally. he watched them with horror clear in his gaze--

--and then there was a sudden spark, fire.

aur zameen pe hum

oh, god, not again! he lurched backwards as one of the trunks burst into flames, struck by lightning. heart hammering in his throat, he raced into the grove, ducking as branches sought to rip at his pelt, looking wildly around. @Hamartia! @Lucas! @Aiko! he shouted, his eyes darting every which-way. he checked the caches, the hollows, the patches of inland brush. . .

he drew to a halt beside lucas's discovery, the old whalebone skeleton, and his face grew utterly blank as he stared toward the waves.

the waves. the colossal, monumental waves.

aaja kal wo is taraf dekhta hai kam

breathing hard, he raced back into the grove, knowing that time was of the essence, now more than later. the rains came, a torrential downpour, extinguishing the fire he'd been so worried about before. it spattered against him, plastering his pelt sleek and wet against his flesh. he shivered and burned with adrenaline all at once, awestruck by the range of emotions the storm had brought out in him.

above all, fear--and confusion. how had he not seen this coming?

where were they?

hamartia! lucas! aiko! oh, god, what about the stormrift wolves? and--and undersea?!

all would surely die, all would perish---

aasman pe khuda--

the first waves crashed upon the shore, rolling much farther along the beach than usual and leaving all matter of debris behind. they kissed the skeleton, receding--and then with a vengeance, crashed in again, this time making it to the edge of the palm forest. the sky was a roiling mass of dark gray, lightning cutting through the clouds in bright, sharp bursts.

govinda raced through the grove, looking for his companions, vaguely wondering if god had spared him only to take him away, so soon.

aur zameen pe hum--

The sheilf maiden had grown use to the beach, from the sound of the constant crash of waves to the rather annoing sand that liked otbe stuck between each toe. She had begun to really call this place home, to really feel like she belonged. Even though they were not reconized as an official pack she protected the borders and roamed the territory rather frequentally, she had a purpose again.

Ah, but this content, this harmony was not meant to last. Alert orange eyes seemed to stare at the looming horizon rather lazily, her head onher paws as she did nto think much of it. At first, and that was a mistake onher part. Her gaze snapped open, widdened, as the roar of the waves seemed to grow louder, more chaotic. What was going on? The wind grew harsh, it growled at her. What was this, this couldnto be a simple storm. Then panic set it, a snap came from above as a flash of white hot light hit one of the palms to her right. The ground rumbled with the shock and then there it was, fire. THe trunk seemed to ignight like dry kindle as her leader's call entered her ears though it was muffled by the ringing in her ears and the loud crackling that began to spred from one palm tree to the next.

At first she was transfixed in place, simply watched the hungry flames. Her fur began to singe as she remained frozen in place. What, why? wHy was this happening, was she never allowed the pleasure of being happy? Was everything she wanted, everything she found comforting, going to be ripped away from her as soon as she became complacent?

Rain came next, wait, not rain. A downpour, putting out the hot blaze with a sputter and hish. She could hardly see now, confusion covered her drenched face as her name was shouted again. Clearer this time, closer than the last time she had heard it. Quickly her frozen limbs moved, taking off from the once fire lit trees until she was running with her leader. all hopes that he might have answers of this sudden fury of the sky was dashed as she saw her own confusion and fear echoed onhis face, she pressed her side against his own as a form of comfort before she lifted her head skyward to call the others just as Govinda had. mAybe two voices could make their names be heard clearer, maybe this would make them come quicker.

"Lucus! Hamartia!" She echoed before she asked harshly in his ear, "what in the hell is this?" Maybe, just maybe, he could still answer this. Please do not be as lost as I am.

a flash of fire--no, not fire, it was aiko, come to join him thank god. he heaved a sigh, drawing near to hear what she was saying to him. he shook his head wildly in answer to her query, eyes crazed as he stared at her. a disaster, he shouted back over the maelstrom, blinking rain from his eyes. we have to get out of here. keep looking for lucas and hamartia.

luckily--at least on one front--along the way, hamartia joined them, and the trio weaved through the grove, calling for lucas. but they did not find the boy, and the storm grew ever fiercer, showing no signs of letting up as the winds raged on. they could not stay here--not in the palms, not on the shore. they had to go--had to go inland--

goodbye, govinda whispered to his newfound paradise, lost within the thunder.

where he ended up--or whom with--was anyone's guess, even his. all govinda knew was that he didn't feel safe until he ran into a stranger, a man with an easy grin. he looks like me, govinda thought, smiling in return and trotting toward the wolf. hey! he called out.

arrey, yaar! the man called back, and govinda came to a dead standstill.

permission to pp hamartia! goodbye for now <3
