Xizur had never believed in anything other than himself, and that had always been enough.

Even now when faced with the revelation that he had a mother, a family - it meant very little to him. She was his past tied to the present by nothing other than the blood shared between them. He owed her nothing. She owed him nothing. They were strangers meeting for the first time on the edge of a forest, nothing more, nothing less.

"No" came his answer to both of her questions, expression glazed with what little sympathy he held for her.
