As the pain subsided almost as quickly as it came, Haunt became aware of her brother's rebuking tone. "Keep your voice down, please," she said to him brusquely, though she softened its sharp edge by nipping at his cheek. "I'm okay." She huffed out a breath, ruffling his fur, before answering to his other indictments. "I needed to stretch my legs and get some fresh air."

She swallowed as she considered asking Vex about what had happened that night. But Haunt decided she didn't care enough to know. It couldn't be anything good, after all. The skin at the back of her neck began to prickle and that was all the reminder she wanted. She very nearly asked him to help her scratch the itch, though Haunt didn't even want to acknowledge it out loud.

Instead, she asked something that would likely strike him as a total non sequitur. "Do you know anything about gods and goddesses?" Artemis had never called herself as much, verbatim, but in the dream, Haunt had simply known she was in the presence of the divine.
