The boy wanted to show that he was having a good time, but he felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. Furthermore, he didn’t think he could manage another trek to go meet anyone.

Fortune had it that Towhee would be joining them by the lake. Swordfish straightened himself up slightly, making sure that he wasn’t looking so bedraggled. He glanced toward Mercy and Ray, wondering if they were nervous or excited. He imagined Ray was excited – his brother had a good sense of adventure, he’d found.
