All Welcome
The weeks blended together. All that remained was them. Bound by nothing other than veiled hopelessness.

She, @Dehlilah, was in tow with him today.

Often times he'd leave her when going off on hunting ventures. Leave her for a day or so, and returned with what he could carry. The handful of times he felt generous to drag back something larger were enough to make up for it. It kept her alive in the least. She was left to come up with the rest.

Seeing himself as their sole provider, he thought it was well within his right to do as he pleased. He wanted her when he wanted her and that was that.

And she seemed to tolerate it.

However, today he knew there was a lake nearby filled with waterfowl. It would be more effort to carry his bearings back to her, and so, he instead would bring her to the meal.

the ducks flew to the heavens every lunge she took, waterfowl curious then repulsed by the rank stench of her flesh.

still she found joy in harassment, even if food would long elude her bones.

a scattering of wings, and once again she danced in the mud, bathed in feathers parted by action from still beating wings.

He ranges far from her, driven by impatience, and soon, the sight of fleeing ducks who had taken to the skies. Their urgency tells him that he will not be alone at the lake.

With quickened pace it does not take long for him to arrive.

There he can see a shadow, who snaps wildly at any bird remaining on the water.

He stands a distance away. His brow furrowed in a mixture of curiosity and frustration as he watches the figure madly frolic about.
