Elwood grinned smugly at Finley, enjoying the shifting expressions on her face as she noticed where he had decided to sit. She didn't waste much time, though, and he soon found himself bracing for impact as she raced towards him, head lowered and prepared for assault as a battering ram. When she hit him, it was with enough force to knock him completely backwards and leave her cache wide open for her to deposit her skins.

He was laughing as he righted himself, and he approached Finley again, ready to tease her more. But just then, Somnia announced that the game was coming to a close, so he took a step back and settled onto his haunches. The mayhem-maker watched as his packmates scrambled to place their last pelts within their caches, then waited for each of them to announce how many they had retrieved. He wasn't sure who the winner would be; all of the wolves had worked hard (he and Somnia included!) so he had lost track early on of who was performing well and who was struggling.

Fin yipped and woofed happily as she felt Elwood falling backwards. She slowed to a stop just after he fell and scraped her paws against the ground as though wiping them off on the snow after a job well done. With that, she turned and dropped her well earned skin into her hole, turning to triumphantly stick her tongue out at Elwood just as he was standing back up and Somnia was suddenly calling an end to the game.

Fin turned to her in surprise. Was it really over already? She glanced at the other caches to her left and right. Her packmates had clearly accomplished more than she had. Immediately her mind raced to blame her failure on Elwood, which for once was actually accurate, though not in the way Finley was blaming him. To her, it was his harassment that made her fail. In truth, it was her preoccupation (is that really a word?) with him that had kept her from doing better at the game.

As he watched, Peregrine came to regret not joining. It looked like everyone was having so much fun! On that note, he was glad he was able to see all this from the outside looking in. It gave him a priceless perspective on Somnia's ability to come up with a game. If it was this much fun for adults, their kids' heads would probably explode when they got to play. The thought made the Alpha male chuckle.

When the match came to a close and the Gamma got ready to announce winners, Peregrine threw Fox a victorious grin, then settled forward onto his stomach to hear the final scores.

The game was over. FitzDutiful waited with baited breath for the results to be announced. He glanced down to his cache at the five pelts sat within. Would it be enough?

In some ways he regretted not going after Somnia when she had stolen those pelts. He had thought that there would be enough time to recover what had been lost rather than expend the energy chasing the game master. As he waited for the words, he had to force the nervous energy away. It was causing him to continually bob his front right leg on the spot as he sat.

He briefly recalled what this exercise was about, raising children, and he wondered - would he be a good provider for his children when they came about?

Next round on 2/1 I'm thinking that this round and the next round should bring the thread to a close. :)
Somnia went around, visiting each of the participants to see how many pelts they found. After getting the numbers, she stepped back, towards an area where everyone could see her clearly. "The winner of the game is FitzDutiful with a total of five pelts!" She announced loudly, casting a smile in his direction.

Suddenly, Somnia wished she had some sort of prize to give to him. The thought had flitted through her mind before. But, anything she could give as a prize would be useless. While a pretty feather or rock could entertain a young pup, Somnia found no uses of those for a grown wolf. While she would actually come up with a prize to help entertain the pups when they were old enough to play, Fitz would have to deal with just a 'congratulations' for now, and that's what Somnia gave him.

"Congratulations on winning the game!" She told him after stepping towards him. Although her attention was primarily on him, she let herself look around once to see what the others were up to. Now that the game was over, they were welcome to hang out and chat, or they could depart if they had other things to do.

Elwood watched with anticipation as Somnia examined each participants collection of pelts. It appeared that it would come down to either Fox or FitzDutiful as the winner -- Finley had only managed to retrieve one skin, he noted smugly.

Once her calculations were complete, Somnia announced the champion. FitzDutiful was victorious, and Elwood let out a congratulatory whoop. He would have cheered just the same for Fox or Finley (okay, maybe a little more for Finley). All in all, he thought Somnia's activity had been a success -- it had encouraged pack bonding and friendly competition, and would be a fun and educational game for Fox and Peregrine's children.

After a careful count, Somnia declared the winner: FitzDutiful! Peregrine shot his mate a playful pout, then jokingly called out, "I demand a recount!" Smiling, he gave her a nudge. "You kicked ass out there, foxy lady," he told her. "You feeling all right?" he added, wondering if she was still experiencing any nausea, especially after all that movement.

The Gamma didn't seem to have a prize for the winner, so Peregrine took it upon himself to trot to a nearby cache. He pulled two of the freshest carcasses—a pair of plump pikas—from it and carried them back to where the rest of the pack still gathered. He dropped one next to FitzDutiful, then presented the other to Somnia.

Once his mouth was free for speaking again, "Thanks for hosting an awesome play session, Som. You did a great job and you'll make a great Caretaker." The Alpha male gave her a nudge, then turned and trotted to rejoin Fox.

It was shortly announced that FitzDutiful was the winner of the contest. Fin pouted in spite of herself. There hadn't been a chance with her lousy one little pelt that she was going to be the winner, but nevertheless it was a bummer being one of the losers. Peregrine was suddenly barking something about a recount, and oddly it made her feel a little better as it made her realize that Fox too had lost. She supposed as long as she was in good company, then the whole losing thing wasn't all too bad.

"You got lucky, Fitzgibbons," she said, trotting towards him to bump her shoulder against his in a congratulatory fashion, "Next time, I call dibs on chaos creator, and you're in for some damn hurt." She smirked and gave him a wink. Her eyes then fell on Somnia as Peregrine was dropping dead rodents at her packmates' feet and congratulating Somnia on her work. She gave a nod in agreement, but otherwise said nothing. After all, she was still a little suspicious of the girl after she'd picked her ...co-beta... to be her partner in crime.

He was the winner?! For real?! He had hoped, he had wished, he had played with intent but he still hadn't envisioned this actually occurring. He let out a whoop of joy that coincided with Elwood's just before Peregrine demanded a recount. Although he was joking, Fitz wasn't sure. He wasn't used to being a winner - did they think that he had cheated?

Feeling a moment of concern, he glanced around until Finley came over to congratulate him. "Thanks Fin," he replied, "And that was a fun game Somnia!" His manners came back to him just as Perry dropped the food at his feet, taking the other to Somnia. "Thank you," he responded to his alpha - lots of thank you going around but that was the dutiful thing to do and he meant every single one of them.

He ripped his prize in half, or attempted to, it didn't appear to be very even but he picked up the smaller one and took it to Fox. "Thank you for the competition!" She was his pregnant alpha but even if she wasn't, he felt second place deserved as much as first. Without other competitors a competition wasn't worth participating in.

I'll archive this and award EXP on the 2/5!

She watched the wolves linger around. Thankfully, Peregrine had the wonderful idea of giving out food for prizes. "Thanks!" Somnia beamed as Peregrine complimented her Caretaker skills. She took a small bite of the food Peregrine had given here before saying, "Thanks to you too, Fitz!"

Somnia took another small bite of the pika before looking around to see everyone was still. "I assume you're all staying for the after-party then?" She joked, trying to give them the hint that it was all right for them to leave now. They were all welcome to stick around and hang out if they wanted to, but now that the actual event was over there was no obligation for them to.

If just one of the others stuck around, she would too. But if everyone else departed, she would too - after she filled in the holes first so that nobody could trip and injure themselves in the near future.

Elwood watched with a smile on his face as his packmates congratulated each other. There wasn't much else for him to contribute, though he didn't necessarily want to be the first to leave. Besides, if there was some kind of afterparty, he wanted to participate!

Presumably, the wolves mingled for a few moments longer, then began to depart. Elwood stuck around long enough to help Somnia cover up the holes that she had worked so hard to dig, and then he, too, took his leave. He was -- of course -- oblivious to the flame of jealousy that had ignited in Finley's chest, never considering that his friendship with Somnia could be a source of envy.

The game was over. Fitz decided that he would hang around for a while. Although he desperately wanted to tell Raissa that he had won at the pack activity, he felt as though the pack mates that turned up deserved to be spent time with too. In particular, he tried to take this opportunity to get to know the members of their pack that he hadn't socialised with recently.

After the post-game party was over, Fitz bid his farewells and sought out the light of his soul to tell her about all the events she had missed - as well as find out what had kept her from attending. It wasn't as if they had prearranged to go but FitzDutiful found he had missed Raissa from the events.

Somnia's mention of an after-party made the Alpha male's lips twitch. He turned to Fox and licked the side of her muzzle. "You wanna head out, maybe grab a bite to eat and get in some cuddle time after all that craziness?" he suggested lightly. "I can give you a massage," he offered, his black tail waving.

Louder, he called, "Thanks for playing, everyone!" The Gamma deserved the most credit for organizing the game and putting so much thought into it. But the rest of the pack deserved some recognition for taking time out of their days to participate and support Somnia. "See you all around."

He waited to see if Fox was joining him—there was always the chance she had other plans in mind—and then made his way toward the cache closest to their den. Peregrine's stomach was no longer bothering him. Actually, he felt quite empty (go figure) and ready for a meal to go.
