Similar thoughts had occupied Charon's past, but his present and future was littered with thoughts of bears. He wondered who all he could count on, when the time came, and who to play on what strengths. He mostly judged the books by their covers in that regard, assuming boxy wolves to be strong, and limber ones to be fast. Truth was though, when it came down to it, everyone really just had to use their common sense and stay the hell away from the claws and teeth of a bear when fighting one; everyone had to use their speed to stay healthy, because bears were perhaps strong, but they weren't that fast.

Those thoughts preoccupied the young leader during his patrol when he lifted his gaze to meet Jorunn's. His brother still refused to go by his given name, and Charon did not understand why Thistle would allow such a thing. To Charon, Tevinter was a Frostfur, and Jorunn was a Loðbrók, a Bay-wolf, family. Still though, at least he'd returned, even if the choice had been made because his other family'd ditched the area. "Hey," he greeted without using a name, for it seemed easiest to avoid that pitfall for now. "Settling in okay?" He wasn't really sure what else to ask in that first moment, but then he thought of another thing he needed to have asked before confrontation time arrived: "Are you gonna be able to help us fight the bears?" Because Charon knew the terror of facing them — he'd been too scared to lunge when they first ran into the pair of bears, the cracking of Atreyu's leg replaying in his mind over and over again — and maybe his brother was scared, too.
