When the howl sounded, Charon was quick to react. He had been patrolling more, not so much because he expected more problems or because he thought Goober would show up or because he wanted to be ready to head Eshe's wolves' call when it sounded, but because he felt restless. He wanted nothing more than Goober's head on a stake, in part because of the belief in him that that would make everything okay and fix all that had been broken, in Dhole, in Flóki, in everything between them.

His urge was to ask if she was okay and ask what was wrong when he first saw her. She looked withdrawn and as though she was waiting, but it was hard to tell. Charon approached, his posture naturally dominant because this was his terrain, ears perked forward in Dhole's direction while he closed the distance between them until there was aproximately a wolf's length between them. "Is anything wrong?" he couldn't stop himself from asking, and he looked at her with prying eyes, as if he thought he could stare what was on her mind out of her if he tried hard enough.
