At the shore, the water makes little waves onto the sand — when you get further into the ocean, there's a really strong pull of the current, so be careful not to go swimming too far if you're ever there. And unlike lakes, the ocean's water is salt. So if you're ever near the ocean and fancy a drink, don't drink it from there." He had meant only to explain but before he knew it he had filled his answer with little dad-disclaimers and warnings, the parent alarm triggered at all the potential dangers.
