The paler brother was roused not by any sound - for he was still nearly deaf to the world - but by a strange feeling of unease. Minnow was there beside him, but Aeryn was not. The young knight turned his blind head, searching with flaring nostrils for the fur of his dark brother. For the first time, he too wiggled away from the Mothership, searching out the lesser but equally beloved warmth of his littermate.

When he found him - snoot bumping clumsily into foot - he rejoiced with a tiny yap and a fierce wriggle of his tail. He bumbled up alongside the dark pup until they were squished together once more.
