Charon wondered a few things when Thistle told him about spring and summer. He had already heard things like that about the seasons. The biggest question for him was, "If baby animals are born in spring, why wasn't I and Levi?" They were born far away from spring, for as far as he knew, since he had never seen spring nor summer. Gunnar probably was born in spring, since Thistle said that most baby animals were born then, so why hadn't he and his siblings been born in the same season?

The hunt for 'grey and strangely shaped' hives continued after Charon hadn't found anything that resembled a hive in the fallen log he had found. The freckled youth continued to search, until he found a standing, dead, hollowed out tree with a hole in it. It looked sad, drooped down to the side. "Look, there's one!" called Charon, and he ran over to the tree to check if there was a beehive inside, filled with excitement.
