The boy tilted his head, standing almost still again, the only part of him moving was his swaying tail.
Had he scared her? Or was she just nervous?
He dipped his head low, trying to look apologetic, maybe a little dejected.
Maybe it would make her braver if it looked like he really really wanted her attention.

"I'm sorry for scaring you," he murmured. His voice had not yet developed the deep baritones of older men so perhaps his boyish tone wouldn't make him so intimidating.

Had he been scared like this in Blackfeather? He couldn't remember very well. His earliest memory was probably Hela and the ravine, though he remembered quite well the first teachings from Maegi which surely wasn't long before that.
