The marten could not go far due to its short stature. The chaos of its trajectory was enough to entertain Raimo for a time, and he tracked it with relative ease. If he ever should falter in his observation he merely needed to wait, as the jerking movements would alert him to the creature.

That all ended when a pale shape burst on to the scene. It was not Kukutux; she was still lame from her injury. It as not Sialuk; the size of the shape did not match. Raimo did not know of many other pale-coated wolves and knew immediately who he was watching.

Adrastus moved with more ferocity than finesse. He bludgeoned the earth as he tore after the pine marten. He was not an effort to observe, and Raimo would argue it was a poor attempt to hunt; such force was necessary for larger creatures but not such small, sinuous things. He wondered if the target would slip through Adrastus' grasp.

Instead of lending his aid, he chose to watch. It was a good test of the other man's prowess when it came to the hunt. Raimo would continue his prowling with his sights set on the wolf rather than the marten.
