Once he learned that Laurel, Indra and Marten were not staying at Swiftcurrent Creek, Lucas turned to a resource he seldom used: his nose. He was a poor tracker and an even worse hunter, so his sense of smell was something he often took for granted and forgot about its intended purpose. But without any leads, he had been forced to search for signs of his family... and eventually, after missing the trail at least half a dozen times, Lucas found it.

Following it took more time than he would have liked. By the time he reached the mountainous sanctuary with its drooping willows, he had developed a solid appreciation for those who spent their lives tracking prey and other wolves. It wasn't something he was likely to do long term; in fact, as soon as he came within a respectful mile of the borders, excitement overwhelmed logic and he stopped using his nose. He didn't notice how their trail veered over the border and then away.

Lucas tilted his broad muzzle and loosed a deep, baying howl for the pack's lead wolves.

One arrived soon enough, a black-furred woman who brusquely told him when he asked that no wolves of their description were permitted entry into Elysium. Lucas didn't miss the tension stretched raw across her features as she delivered this news. As he turned away from the borders, he found himself deeply troubled by what he'd done to deserve such a frosty reception, unaware that it was actually his mother and aunt who had given Elysium cause for it. Lily hadn't known where they went, either; it was fortunate that no one ever told Lucas about their brief plan to go to the coast, because that may have been where he turned next.

Instead he went further inland, thinking he would make his way back to Bearclaw Valley, where he believed they would eventually go.

Have permission from Lily's player to conclude this BTS as a read only.
