All Welcome
Quick, someone save Venamis before he gets squished.  :O
Could be a good death opportunity if you're considering killing your own character.

In the days since the forest first shook, Blackfeather fell quiet. The crows no longer squabbled like they once did - in fact, they were barely present at all. Venamis, the boy who'd scowled at them during his time in the woods, had of course noticed their dispersal. How many times had he wished them away? It seemed they'd been granted, yet their absence filled him with a new discomfort.

He padded quietly beneath the canopy, listening to the soft pitter patter of rainfall on the leaves above, and contemplated an anxiety that had fluttered in the pit of his belly since. Something in him made him feel like he should go, move on like the crows had, he he didn't want to. Venamis had no real ties to Blackfeather, wasn't fond of those who inhabited it, but where could he go? Crawling back to his mother and father?

He snorted at the idea.

Nah, he was determined to stick this out despite the oppression that hung over him, and his mind turned to plotting his next tricks on Blackfeather's other youngsters. As he did so, something stirred in the ground and the boy paused to observe, raven ears pricked in surprise as a nearby tree swayed and groaned - threatened to topple to the ground on which he stood.

the world threatened to fall away beneath them, and often, it seemed simply a bad dream. she found herself dedicating all her time to her children, both in her waking moments and dreams, and so when she saw the dark flicker that must be @Scylla, she moved to follow her daughter, pivoting smoothly.

then the tree falls and things are thrown in sharp clarity; the exact texture of the bark, the thundering sound of rain on the autumn touched canopy. her daughter, unmoving. but she is, and suddenly does she collide with the boy, shoving her clear without a trace of gentleness. her legs give way and so does the bottom half of her body. a snap, of bone and bark, her face in the dirt and eyes fixed on a ragged canopy. by some miracle, she is still conscious, seemingly unaware of the trunk crushing the rear half of her body against the mud, the jagged branch piercing through her flank. "scylla.she breathes, and some detached part of her mind wonders if this is enough. a life, for a life.

it is then that awareness leaves the woman. she'll breathe for a few hours yet, but her gaze remains fixed on the shattered fragments of sky she can see betwixt the canopy.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Beneath him, a rumble that turned to violent tremors. Venamis stumbled, ebony tail tucked low, and as he attempted to regain balance he lost it entirely, dropping heavily to the unstable earth.

His elbow burned from the impact, but he scrambled upright at once and braced himself, alabaster eyes frantically searching for somewhere to go, somewhere to hide, but nowhere was safe. The boy's heart rate quickened as he acknowledged his vulnerability and stood, frozen to the spot, with no idea what to do.

Over the noise of thunder below, branches clashed above. The spiderling felt the tree roots shift and, swinging his muzzle toward the crack! of breaking wood, saw the tree trunk begin its fall toward him, but before he could even think to react he was buffeted roughly aside.

The tree, once solid and proud, collapsed onto the earth where Venamis previously stood - but someone else lay pinned beneath its weight.

The spiderling righted himself onto his belly as the quake began to subside, coughing and sputtering as the dust from the tree's fall gathered in the air, and through the haze he saw a dark figure, trapped. He gathered onto his paws, stepping tentatively over the ground, eager to better see the creature who'd prevented him from being crushed.

He recognised her as the twins' mother, and stopped at once when the metallic tang of fresh blood filled his nares. Venamis simply stared at Cassiopeia, flanks still heaving from the suddenness of all that had happened, his gaze watching the life seep from her own.

As hunters, death was something that they experienced on an almost daily basis. But to witness the demise of his own kind was entirely new to him. Venamis, not knowing what to do or how to deal with his very real fear, finally turned away and fled the scene in a desperate search for Maegi.
