Breaking my own no-FWD dating threads to get PHASE 2 on the books, as I won't be able to post tomorrow. Dated for 9/16/19.

It began with a long quake, loud and jarring. Any animals that had not yet fled the area lay down or stood stock-still in fear and confusion. Those who were standing could not stand for long and had to lay down for the shaking, which seemed to last forever. In truth it was only about a minute. When it was over, all of Silverlight Terrace seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief.

But it was not over yet.

Suddenly, a strange, deep, splitting crack could be heard from the mountain range surrounding the Terrace. The earthquake had loosened a massive chunk of rock from one of the peaks. Seemingly in slow-motion, it fell from the place where it had clung for centuries and crashed into the slope of the mountain. Nothing was slow-motion anymore. With frightening speed, it rolled and tumbled down the mountain, bringing with it all manner of smaller rocks and loose soil. The sound was enormous, a roaring unlike anything that had been heard before, as if the rockslide were a dragon that had previously been sleeping inside the mountain range.

With greater speed, this huge gathering of rocks and soil that now looked more like roiling smoke plummeted down, down, down… It hit the ground. Anyone standing where it had come down would be dead now. Dead and silent and still, like the aftermath of the rockslide. It ended just as quickly as it had begun, and now all that was left in its wake was a dusty cloud where the slide had settled and a ringing in the ears of anyone nearby.

It had been some time since Cordelia was forced to set off on her own. Catching small game now and again to sustain herself. This place was still foreign to her but she was gaining more confidence traveling on her own, having not encountered any savages. But she still sought out a proper place to seek shelter, whether that be on her own or within a pack.

As she walked cautiously in another new area of these wilds a large quake shook the earth, causing her to unsteady her balance. Birds fleed from the trees and smaller creatures scurried away. Crouching down and grounding herself. It felt as though the floor beneath her would crumble to ash. Her heart pounded out of her chest and her stomach sank. It continued for seemingly forever before subsiding, allowing Cordelia to catch her breath as her legs shook frightened beneath her.

Her moment of relief was short-lived as another sharp crack echoed through the hills. Looking up a large boulder began to tumble down the mountain. Followed by its smaller entourage of debris. Her instincts told her to run and that's exactly what she did. Running from the base of the mountain and darting behind a preexisting large rock (out of the crash zone for clarification).

Loud thudding scattered the floor as the rocks came to an ununified halt. Dust crept around the cover that she took as she lay there shaking and scared huddled in a ball wishing she could have been home.

He was raised to be ever-aware of the dangers a mountain range could present, but these quakes and tremors were driving things to new heights never before experienced by him--and as someone devoted enough to observing nature, its causes and effects, this had him on guard. Plus, what if something bad came to their home? He was loathe to imagine the possibility, so absolutely would not--though it was not the kind of enemy he or any of his family could exactly protect against.

Still, he was feeling worried about this after he had heard the resounding crack come from elsewhere in the range from Moonspear's lowest reaches. He had been investigating for damages or changes already.. so well after the rumbling had ceased, the dark Ostrega set off into the lower valleys to scope it out--from a bit of a distance, of course. Maybe there could be some kind of real explanation here. Lately, more than ever, he wished his parents were still here to ask about this--one of them would have surely known how or why this was what nature saw fit to deal them.

The dust had only just begun to settle and thanks to the fact, he was on absolute edge as he jogged onward and soon began to close in on the rubble left behind. So far, it was the worst he had seen firsthand. The smaller shifts on the Spear so far did not quite compare, so now he was really understanding why the prey seemed to be moving on; and he did not like these realizations, or the grim weight in his belly they inspired.

Despite his trepidation, his curiosity eventually started to win out when he saw safe passage for himself and his steps tracked closer, vaguely. As for what was beyond, further into where it may be unsteady still.. he didn't want to know, but this was not what he liked to see at all.

There huddled, the dust clouded around her, leaving a light silver layer to cover her snow colored coat, now matching the freckles scattering her cheeks. Surrounded by the rubble little ticks of rock shifting echoed around her, slowly subsiding with time, along with the shakes that encombered her body.

Only when the shifting of rocks arose again did she lift her head into an alert state. The shifting was different and it made her think that it was caused by a being rather than nature. She thought to keep hidden and see if they might pass with her unnoticed. But could this be someone to help her? Despite the indifference those of the Keep felt for her, Dawson's words would hang in her mind that these lands were filled with savages. And if push came to shove, she would not survive.

As more rocks shifted she turned her head and perked her ears. Despite the settling of dust, some still lingered along the floor, and with her being on the ground her lungs didn't fancy it. Regardless of her efforts to resist her body reactively let out a few muffled coughs, surely signaling her existence. Perhaps not her exact location, but what would that matter, she stuck out like a sore thumb.

She would need to assess. Running was an option but without knowing her obstacles around her, tripping over herself was likely, and a probable cause for her demise. Her words were her strongest tool, she hoped it would be all she needed. Not guaranteed that the shifting was another wolf she took a breath and spoke, "Hello... Is... Is someone there? I mean not to be a bother."

There were more than a few moments where it was stop and go for him. He didn't trust any of this unsettled terrain, not with how the entire earth quaking had caused this in the first place. Only in certain spots did he pick forward, even had this once been familiar, well-travelled stomping grounds. Not right now, it was barely recognizable in some places.. and he started to get the itch to turn his nose back towards home--soon, anyway. Curiosity kept pressing, and his ears swung unexpectedly to a voice. Someone else was out there..?? He perked, trying to pinpoint the source, sight unseen exactly. Yeah someone's here, he replied. What are you doing here? It isn't safe, he called out like he had business here.. but maybe more than most, he lived right nearby, knew mountains, and was often passing through here anyway. Nevertheless he picked out a pathway that started to carry closer towards the voice, though he was uneasy still about the setting and going too much further.

Are you okay? he asked back. Maybe she couldn't get out of here..? That was not what he hoped to find out here, and all the more reason to keep his time short here before something worse could come next.
