All Welcome

Mature Content Warning

This thread has been marked as mature. By reading and/or participating in this thread, you acknowledge that you are of age or have permission from your parents to do so.

The participants have indicated the following reason(s) for this warning: later discussing hallucinogens

maybe @Rye or @Imaq but all welcomed <3

She stuck to the wooded areas that day. Inclined to try and find something worthwhile for her pitiful medical stash. She had prayed, begged and urged the weather to warm further and yet it hardly seemed enough. Although it was not freezing, the weather did not seem warm enough to encourage buds to burst through the snow. Yet perhaps she would be...fortunate enough to find something stuck to tree trunks, maybe stashed away in an old den or hollow.

This would result in an odd pattern of carefully sticking her nose into each herbal scented crevice she could find. She was sure that to some it might have looked like she lost something.

Perhaps this could count towards Ryes Medic trade?
Edit; The odd indents are hopefully not permanent, I edited a profile setting, sorry!

Paws dug into the snow, claws unearthing a buried treasure made unperishable by the frigid temperatures
in the night and the seemingly everlasting snow in the evenings. Alas spring was beginning to claim back
the land and although winter was fighting gallantly, it would be no match for the heat of summer. Life was
being brought forth and with it ushered in the new season. Spring was such a fitting name for the beginning
of summer, mothers sprung life unto the lands with great passion and would shepherd their tiny lives through
the trials and tribulations of their first days of existence. It was a beautiful cycle but for Rye it was the
harbinger of guilt and shame, a near constant battle to justify his past actions, or rather, lack thereof. He did
not want to be useless anymore, he wanted to learn, he wanted to ensure life could remain no matter the
injury or complication. With his hunger finally sated Rye went out in search of Iana, hopefully she had the
time to teach him some practical medicine.

It took shorter than expected to come across the cream colored female but she had her nose shoved into a
crevice, Ryes head cocked to the side as approached. "Looking for something?" He abruptly asked with
no introduction first.

That sounds perfect! :)

"Looking for something?"

A soft thump of her muzzle against the open entrance of the hole she had currently investigated. It caused her eyes to water a bit and blink, head turned to spot...

Oh! Rye!

She was pleased to see he had stuck around. So despite the dull ache that spread over the top of her muzzle, she offered him a friendly wave of her tail and a soft smile.

Yes, actually. A soft lull of a voice as usual even if her body language seemed lively. I'm trying to figure out if I can find any herbs with the snow starting to thaw.

'Youch!', Rye thought. His own head flinched and his brows pursed together as he waited to see if there was lasting damage. He carefully watched her head rise from the hole, investigating subtly (or trying to) he saw no blood and no gash, a silent sigh of relief slipped out from his closed lips. He harbored a smidge of guilt for spooking her but he knew she was fine, so he returned with a small smile. "Very sorry." He sheepishly whispered.

Moving on.. "Well, what would be in there? I mean what would grow?" He asked, genuine interest held in his eyes. Rye knew next to nothing of herbs and where they might grow, he knew plants needed sunlight to grow but if it was in a hole, what did it use to grow? So many questions, only one at a time.

Her clumsiness was hers alone, and she would not hold anything against him about her bumping her own snout. So his apology would be dismissed with a soft smile and shake of her head.

Perhaps moss or mushrooms. She informed him in a hummed, thoughtful tone. I also had hopes that...well, it sounds silly aloud but maybe someone left something stored behind. Songbird laughter followed, a bit sheepish as her gaze roamed to look somewhere that wasn't him. Back to the hole her head had been stuck in moments ago. As if something would suddenly appear when she spoke of it.

There was still so much he had to learn, it all seemed overwhelming but he had hope that in the grand scale of things eventually he could save a life or possibly two. Rye was still unable to push what happened to the back of his head, in the quiet of the night when a drop of water sounded like the crack of branches his thoughts filled the silence, leaving him deprived of sleep most nights. There was hope his guilt would subside when he finally saved a life, repay what he thought was owed but since when were resolutions ever that cut and dry?

Rye moved his attention back to Iana, confused by her discomfort his eyebrows raised slightly. He briefly thought about asking her why she was embarrassed but second thoughts got to him before he could open his mouth. "There's always a chance, I'm sure there is some buried secrets around here." It was his attempt to try to make her feel better, maybe it would work, maybe not. Either way Rye would move on to ask a question. "So, what can moss and mushrooms be used for? Are they useful on their own or do they require other things as well?" He asked, interest thickly laced in his voice.

His words were kind, but it was the question that helped clear the embarrassed fog over her mind the most. Eager and happy to ramble on things she knew for certain.

Moss is good for soaking things. Whether it be on the injury sight, or as a vessel for water. The latter is important if your patient is confined to the den. That way you can make sure they're still drinking. Something close to firm in her words. A seriousness, perhaps. Something Iana rarely showed but she felt inclined to when it came to a topic she felt so strongly about.

Mushrooms are a bit out of my range, but I have heard there are some that...alter the mind.

Disregard the pm, I fixed it!

Rye admired Ianas knowledge, her conviction to the craft was greatly shown not only in her actions but in her words as well. He could almost see the fire in her eyes as she spoke passionately about the herbs. It brought forth an ear to ear smile for Rye, her passion sparking his own and igniting the flame of the males zeal for the craft. His tail could not refrain from swaying side to side, his back end wiggling from the continued movement. As Iana moved on to Mushrooms, sobriety took him and he looked earnestly intrigued. The knowledge felt forbidden but it was deliciously decadent nonetheless, in some childish way Rye felt mischievous but he held his composure. For the moment.

"Do—" He began, hesitance deep in his voice, "Do you know how they affect the mind? Is it deadly?" His voice did not contain any of his excited curiosity, the dam had burst. Rye was perhaps a little too excited to learn of these magic mushrooms but his heart was in the right place. He had genuine interest in the shrooms and although he so desperately craved to know their effects in detail, he wasn't keen on the idea of losing self control. However one may think otherwise from an outside perspective.

Good questions, as such she paused with thought.

I have heard tales that you can see things that others won't. Feel them like they're real. All tales and speculations. She had no clue on how real such a claim was. I do not know the doses for that, though. What is harmless and what is...dangerous. She assumed there was a danger to such a thing. If it altered the mind, then safety must be at risk.

Colored ears cupped towards the medic, intent on soaking up all the knowledge Iana had to offer and then some. Rye couldn't fault her for not knowing doses or really much else about the mushrooms, he didn't think there were many who would voluntarily consume a plant which would cause heavy hallucination for the progression of medicine. "Sounds intense, I suppose I should avoid any sort of mushroom altogether then?" He asked, wondering if other mushrooms held the same hallucinogenic properties.

Perhaps that is for the best, She hummed softly. I'm sure there are harmless ones but...until we know more. Wave off the topic entirely. Perhaps she'd discuss it with Imaq or Mahler. See if they were familiar with the fungi.

Ah, have you learned anything new yet? Met any other healers? The constant exchange of information was a wonderful thing in their role and shared interest.

Welcome to wrap things up if you'd like!

Rye agreed, a few strong nods demonstrated his inclination to avoid anything that look remotely looked like mushrooms. A firm, better safe than sorry policy.
Iana asked him if he knew of any other medic around and Rye gave it a moment to sift through all the memories of the past week, who he had met, talked with or seen around but Imaq was all that came to mind. She was messing with hides last he saw, so Rye shook his head. "No, as far as I know you're the only medic here."

Can close here or reply again! :D

You should meet Imaq, She started off with. Some fondness in her words for the kind medic. Willing to give him a description if he so needed one.

Otherwise they could fill their time with discussion of other herbs and hopefully finding a useful thing or two to take back to her den.
