he missed his daughter desperately today.

it had been his fault. he'd left. abandoned her in the care of easy, who he knew would look after her better than he ever could. and then he'd departed, without word as to when he'd return.

he wasn't sure he would.

but slogging through this muck, brook weighed on his heart and mind and soul. and his other children too, of course. she had, however, been the one to follow him. the one to wander. the one with something deep and dark within her heart, something he could not quite suss out.

aditya waded ankle-deep through the slough, ears twitching away mosquitoes here and there. he barely felt their stings; he barely felt the wetness at his paws.

but he felt his daughter's absence like a fatal wound, and moved like a man mortally hurt.
