All Welcome

It had been a long voyage to this point.
There before her stood a mountain. She knew it was inhabited because of the scents that grew prolific at its base, and so the wolf did not tread too close. When she found that invisible line (rich within her nose) she tread carefully along it.
There was a familiar scent — that of the older woman — and it was this that kept Sanja curious.

Calida was patrolling, as per usual, when a stranger's scent filled her nose. Her brow furrowed and the young woman changed course, loping towards the scent. She eventually found the stranger, straddling their boundary. The guardian pressed forward, raising her tail as she approached the other female. "Halt, there. Who are you?" And why was she so close to their land, unannounced?

Her eyes were focused elsewhere when the figure approached, but when the stranger spoke the wolf turned to regard them sharply. They were hard of hearing and as a result, more jumpy when strangers approached from behind.
It was Sanja's own fault; she was a little bit smitten with this space. The air was clean and bright with pine.
The stranger had spoken in the tongue of the angry man and so Sanja was made wary. What if this was where that giant had come from? What if this red-coated stranger was equally aggressive.
Ég er ferðalangur. Her posture dipped so that she was smaller, and her ears turned back. If this wolf was like the angry man, she would know Sanja's language - if not, that only raised more questions.

skippable for now <3

ikniqpalagaq could not say with a definitiveness that she recognized the figure along the border. it was dark, large and it was slender.

and she was too out of earshot to hear that familiarly foreign tone in the air.

so instead she watched from a distance, visible but unmoving. a silent supportive figure in the background.

The stranger was jumpy, but rightfully so, Calida thought; she had no business being so close to claimed land. When the other woman spoke, it was in a language that Calida had never heard before. Feeling slightly at a loss of what to do, but feeling that this is her first test as one of Atautsikut's guardians, she shook out her pelt and huffed softly. But then, she sees another figure; one she knows by sight but not name.

Calida looked back to the stranger, pressing closer. "I don't understand you, but you... you need to move. You're too close to my pack's land." Her tail lifted again, and she jerked her chin towards the land beyond their boundaries.

The stranger pressed closer. There wasn't any recognition upon their face to what Sanja spoke, which made her wary. She did not know what to do about the language barrier. Her tail swayed with a nervous twitching before it curled to touch her belly, and she averted her eyes again.
When the stranger spoke Sanja could not help but glance up, and saw the slightest movement. They had lifted their tail and motioned in a way that further confused Sanja, but it was enough of a clue for her to intuit something.
As she recoiled back a step, then a few more, a low sound came from Sanja. A whine that became a chuff, drawing away from the territory limits and the red-furred stranger. I'm not a threat, her posture was saying, as she found an escape route.

The stranger understood, and as she stepped away from the borders, Calida's tail lowered. She shot a glance to her packmate, then beckoned to her; she didn't know what to do with this language barrier. Looking back to the stranger, she asked slowly, "Do you know common? Do you have a name?" They would need to find some way to communicate.

The shadow stopped mid-stride.
The red wolf was not chasing after her yet, but there were still two wolves here. She did not feel safe. But she stood there and listened all the same, trying to piece together understanding; she did not know how to answer the first question (which was an answer by itself), but recognized the second.
Sanja, she said quickly.
Her ears pivot with unease. Her head and neck drop a few inches as further proof that she is no threat, and that she is nervous. Nafn? Nn, name.
The woman doesn't know if it is worth it to linger, or to take the route away that she'd spied; but she has a trembling hope now that something can be resolved here.

She had a name. Sanja. Calida dipped her head, then gestured to herself with a paw, saying, "Calida." The young guardian could see Sanja's unease, and she huffed softly, making herself relax. This woman was clearly no threat.

Frowning, she gestured to the lands behind her. "Pack, here. Atautsikut." She felt silly and awkward communicating like this, but Sanja clearly didn't know much, if any, common.

pulling her here!

Calida.
Atautsikut.
There had been enough posturing and warning from the woman to give Sanja a strong impression. The words meant little, but she knew they were names by the way they were used, and that the red-furred woman was some kind of warrior for this place.
For a moment Sanja is thoughtful. She lifts her head with utmost care - the rest of her small and tucked in all the right places, - and after stealing a glance over Calida's head to the surrounding woodland (which tapered up the rise) she dropped it again, and snaked back a few more steps.
This was a home. It was guarded. Sanja was not welcome.
Her tongue flicks nervously over her lips as she's withdrawing, and she mumbles, Sanja bless.
It was better to get out of here before any further miscommunication.

Calida watched Sanja as she left, not leaving from her spot until the other woman was long out of vision. She turned back to the summit, letting out a low call and remarking the border, just to be safe. The packmate from earlier had disappeared, but Calida just shrugged and made her way back to her den for some much-needed rest.
