The twins had decided to split up.

Everett had protested when @Evander shared his idea: they would meet in the middle of the territories they scouted, running east and west until the sun hit midday, before scouting back to meet again in the place they had parted. They lost one night of travel, but Evander had argued this a noble sacrifice. They needed the words of others. Those who might have seen Tybault or Ophelia.

So Everett took off to the east, having hardly spoken more to his brother once he’d laid out his plan and presented himself unmoving. Yet though he obliged, he couldn’t soften the ache that blossomed in his chest. Evander had come with him when no one else had come. Evander had believed him -

Everett’s vision spiralled with sparks of white and black, and the bot slowed down, finding his breath laboured and tight.
