breathlessly the child made haste, stumbling through thicket and fern for the open headlands. she would have made a direct line for the expanse of plains were it not for reek's voice, clear and close behind her.
indra slowed, her batlike ears dropping to her skull in defeat. abashedly, the small child hunched down and turned back to her father, her tail tucked in a crook between her legs. "nowhere." she lied, her gaze on the ground as she admitted she had been caught red-handed in an act of selfishness.
