he could no longer deny that the pups were, for one, getting old enough to venture outside not just the rendezvous point but the plains themselves, and for another, that trying to contain them was an impossible task. and frankly, a fruitless one, as well. they were grayday's, in the spirit of dawn and easy--they were born to venture. if they were going to do so, then they might as well have some company and guidance.

adi led @Kitten into the maplewood, making sure she kept (relatively) close to his side. he smiled at her as they stepped through the trees, trying to lift his own spirits. the forest had been his and dawn's 'place,' of sorts, and every sight and sound brought her to mind. perhaps it would never hold the same allure for him again, as it had when they were together. but at least it was still pretty.

"the deer like to rest in the shade, here," he murmured, glancing down at the girl. "there are turkeys, too, as well as smaller animals. in the fall, the leaves turn all kinds of colours--you'll see it, in just a few moons." he could not wait, himself. there were few things more beautiful than a deciduous forest in autumn.
