there wasn't much more for indra to say. words had such clumsy impact sometimes - they failed where gestures did not, and often were at the mercy of the ability of the tongue that wielded them. indra's eyes spoke of her gratitude, but she said little more as saucy announced her departure.

for a while she would sit there, lost in unfathomable thought. she was thinking, naturally, of lucas -- but not of his whereabouts. saucy's questions had posed new questions for indra, and all were unanswerable: in a fervent sort of mental triage, indra labored well until dusk had hold of the world.
