She grinned to hear her nickname, but she beamed as he expressed he would be staying. 

Leta could hardly believe it. She wanted to shout from the mountains about it—her best friend was staying! She laughed at trouble, knowing she avoided the word like the plague... but Charlie had brought her here and stayed with her to keep her safe. Of course he would stay for that, and also, Leta knew their friendship. So happy was she that she could not contain herself; Leta moved to gingerly fling her arms around him in the equivalent of a wolf hug, gleeing, OH!! I am SO happy! before withdrawing, that smile still present. 

He and his big ears would never get rid of her if she could help it.
