Otatso Wetlands may I stand unshaken

She returned from the North against her better judgment. These were dangerous lands, no place for a child — but she was no longer a child, and she knew of dangers far greater.

The branches of ancient trees talked in the breeze. Taktuq did not recognize these lands in full. She had been too young when she had left to remember. But she had recognized enough landmasses to know that she had come again into the Teekon Wilds.

This time, would she be ready?

Taktuq had heard the man’s ruckus before she had spotted him, and with a nerve she possessed most freely in these twilight hours, she drew near him now.

“You look happy,” she remarked, loud enough, she trusted, for him to hear.
