if she was so careful, why hadn't she learned to hunt? the days were hot, the air thick, but he knew it would end sooner than they realized for the first crisp bites of autumn. she was already thin; more failed hunts would have her truly desperate before the first snow even fell.
"or you could hunt with me now. get some actual food into yourself." of course there was always something to be had in return, but ancelin trusted her intelligence. hunting on a pack's land was forbidden — unless you were a wolf of that pack. she understood that. he understood that. and this was bearclaw land so long as the bearclaws remained unchallenged.
