The babe swung in her jaws and it's screeching grated in her ears.

The pounding of her steps, scrambling over loose stones, hugging the earth as she went—to the ravine; in to the earth!

Behind her raced the woman.

Sulukinak found the edge and without thinking further, as there was no time for thought, she tried to claw her way to a ledge.

The babe squealed—and the betrayer was there, snatching her at the last moment. An unholy sound erupted from Sulukinak as she saw the woman and the child retreat back from the edge.

GIVE HER BACK TO ME.
