The merle had decided upon a last round of the borders as the sky painted itself in the vibrant hues of a citrine and peach sunset -- the bright colors drawing her aquamarine gaze of seawater and reminding her for some reason of the soft, floral @Iana (reference). A warmth welled beneath her breastbone, whether inspired by the beauty of the twilight around her or the piebald in her thoughts remaining unknown to the she-dog. She was keen not to think too deeply on it, having never even realized that there were those who choose the same gender as partners, and chose to just be content in the moment.

Still, when the scent of a coyote crossed over the borders that she had so carefully laid -- amongst her other packmates -- the shepherd felt those fuzzy feelings dispel, replaced by a territorial protectiveness that had begun to rear its head since learning that there would be young ones born on the Glacier that spring. With a soft woof of exhaled irritation, the cur turned and followed after the odor.
"...and all around was the bitter arctic cold and the immense silence of the North..."
