He prepared to disembark and Frolic quickly mimicked him, eager to demonstrate her readiness to accompany him. But Kilgitsuk—no, Winterhawk, a rad name that made her think of her friends’ secret language—said she should stay here. And not to worry.

But— Frolic began to protest when she heard someone calling her name. Dagnabbit! Son of a monkey spank! she swore, knowing her smelly brother must’ve gone back to their parents and tattled on her. Okay, I’ll allow it! she had no choice but to say to Winterhawk then.

She waved a paw—or maybe shook a fist—and then scampered back toward the sound of the call. Frolic thought it might be kind of fun not to tell anyone about the whole deer coming their way soon because who didn’t love a surprise? But it all depended on how much trouble she was in and how much buttering up she had to do when she got there.
