The Bracken Woods She

All he could hear was the whisper of the wind, rustling the branches overhead.

No answer.

It was a test, moreover. His poised tail goes slack, he’s crestfallen.

The boy puts his nose to the ground once more, and continues patiently searching for his sibling. He is quieter, more methodical this time. 

Not long, he espies the outline of a wolf. He ducks down and stalks toward it.
