swamp panther women carved dens of sacred red clay for this time, and therein their men visited them, to conceive children there inside the dome of earth which resembled a womb.

but there was no scarlet clay here, no swamp, and no desire to bear young. muskrat was not made for climbing mountains, but determination and her time at the creek fed muscles that flexed now, hauling her lithe body higher.

wolves in the canyon; wolves upon a mountain of shadow; the curious scent of mother's-milk near a lake where she had stopped to drink. wanting to avoid them all, she sought out the highest peak and spent a day ascending to as near its cold summit as she was able.

shivering at the touch of snow in the air, bruise-pawed and half-dead on her feet, muskrat lay down almost where she stood: beside a sharp boulder. sleep was prompt, despite the heated pulse of her body's growing flame.

Viinturuth had seen the red flame from a distance, had heard tales of her from his brother. He had felt to real interest in gaining a better understanding of her, however, until she announced her leave of the creek and took herself Westward.

He pursued her into the mountains, certain that he knew the reason why she'd rushed off into the wilds beyond Swiftcurrent. It was the way of many young she-wolves, he understood: to search far and wide for a suitable mate when her body chose to flower.

Viinturuth could smell it, he was sure, and he doubted that he would be the only one. When he found her on the rugged peaks she had settled herself to sleep. His own bones and muscles ached from the climb but he kept watch from a short distance away, alert to any who might try their luck.

when her eyes opened, it was to take in the form of a vaguely familiar man, and one who appeared to have followed her many miles from the creek. muskrat's lip curled in annoyance, and she kicked a stone toward the egret.

"go down farther on the mountain. away from me." her teeth flashed with the promise of a scar to match her own if he did not retreat from where she had made her camp near the summit.

the sensation of being guarded caused a rankling inside muskrat, who watched him with a hard lemon stare. were there no women in the entire valley who he could ask for entertainment?

can be a cameo if he is not acknowledged

up, up, up did he climb, high to the clouds of floating madness. legs shook like jello while a sinful heart threatened to pound from his chest and splinter ribs to break free.

pretty was a scent on the wind, sweet like honey. but he was no bee nor bear, and the allure to it was out of boredom for the world. climb yet he did, straight to the open claws of a lustful trap waiting beneath a cloud of cover.

words spat between two bodies before an amused chuckle broke free from the stained cage of fangs like lined his smile. a crackle shivered it's way through joints as he sat off some distance to watch, faintly occupied by the dance of strangers.

there was another man, and muskrat's teeth flashed in the mountainous gloom toward him as well.

if they retreated or did not, she would not see it. muskrat disappeared into the stone collar of the sunspire mountain, a growl grating to announce her departure.
