With Jarilo taking point, Dirge fell in behind him easily and presumed Kane would follow. At least now that they were acquainted and well acquainted with the proverbial pecking order things would go a bit more smoothly he thought; he was just as thankful to put the bizarre turn of events behind them.

“The elk should be beginning to return with their young,” he thought aloud to the group. “We could try for a calf if we’re feeling particularly lucky. But if not, well, there’s always the deer lurking about. Since last year’s debacle they don’t seem too keen on being brazen and crossing through the lowland of our claim.”

Of course, that was a minor price to pay given that they had endured a famine and just as untimely one catastrophe after another. As long as this year proved to be quieter on that front then maybe he wouldn’t deem it as bad. Besides, they could do with stretching their legs and guiding prey through the glen all the same.
