the first thing he remembered after coming to was running.

he ran without thought of where he was going, ran without any notion of why. there had been darkness, grogginess, the edges of things blurred— and once he found his paws again, all he could think to do was run.

and breathe. breathing hard. panting, the strange thing around his neck more like a vise than ever before. bits of foam had gathered at the corners of his lips, and his eyes darted. he smelled. . .sterile, alien. his coat was well-kept but his mind was far from it.

easy! he shouted, though he knew he was nowhere near home. he'd never seen this place before.

but he had to get back. this couldn't happen again. not again. not again.

not again, you deadbeat dad.

swallowed, sucked in air, then— EASY!! his bellow shattered the forest quiet, echoed off the trees, scared birds from their perches.

run, run, run away—no, back—but back where?!—

down

he stumbled forward into empty air and began to plummet, tumbling, gasping, and by the grace of some god a tree (dislodged by flooding) broke his fall near the bottom of this gruesome chasm broke the fall. he cascaded into leaves and branches, head struck something sharp

aditya rolled to a stop within the ravine, amidst the bones, yet another corpse. or so it seemed.
