She’d sent the bird away. Days of hard travel were better taken alone anyway, and she needed him to do something for her.

She sent him to @Germanicus .

You are to let him know I am alive, should Pharoah tell him otherwise. You are a smart bird, now go. And tell him nothing of what we discussed.

And away he went. Good.

She had not been suited for birds that size. The greyscale woman was a teeny, tiny thing, gangly with misheld youth that clung stubbornly to her frame, a mockery of a wolf, a thing with a gangly frame that spoke of too many lost meals.

But, well. She would bulk up with more work, she supposed, despite knowing she’d stay thin and lanky for her entire life, somewhere in the back of her brain.

Thus, she was here. Picking her way gently through a ravine, going the way the bird had told her in aggravated clicks and clacks and squeezes. Her shoulder and leg throbbed, but she ignored them. Nameless, she was starting anew.

And if pain was how she did it, then so be it.
