The forest was a welcomed change from the snowy mountains. While supple grass peeked through here and there at the mountain's base, a thick layer of partially thawed ice packed down most of the ground, and Turmeric was certain he'd fallen down over big and clumsy paws more times in the last two days than he had all winter long.

Despite all his tumbling, however, he had found one use for the range, and he busied himself to return there, just after he collected a few more rocks. A stripped piece of bark served as a perfect basket to carry his treasures, and he loaded that basket high. He wouldn't be able to take the wood up the towpaths, of course, but he could bring it to their base, and even now, as he enjoyed a bit easier terrain around the forest's lower reaches. A snaking stream had led him here, and he scuffed about in a wedge of the river bank to unearth the stones that lay beneath the snow.

jumping in w permission!

There came a point in the day were the yearling realized he hadn’t had any water. Such a simple necessity he seemed to forget of each day.
He made his way towards a stream, chilled by the snowmelt that floated within it. It was there he came across another wolf poking about at his bank. A stranger, much to his surprise.
eh… what are you doing? His perplexes expression matched his tone.

With his head buried ear deep in the snow, he hadn't heard the approach of the stranger until he started speaking - to which Turmeric yanked his head out of the snowbank with a startled, "huh!?"

Slush flew up and into the air behind him, and around him as he whipped his head to face the man who'd spoken. "Oh - ah - looking for rocks!" he coupled his words with a grin, despite the confusion that touched his eyes as his mind recklessly scrambled to match the deep voice he'd heard with the delicate wolf before him now, "Only, they're buried real deep here so I've gotta dig for them. Can't do science without a subject, y'know?" And he laughed, as though that had somehow been funny.

The strangers face whipped upward, and with it came  a flurry of snow.
He’d gotten a good look at him then; earthy toned with eyes to match. One couldn’t be no elder than the other, yet the stranger had a childlike, whimsy demeanor to him, what with his rock collecting and all. But an interest in science now that was another commonality they shared.
He smiled and his brow raised. what sort of science do you plan to subject t’e rocks to?
