All Welcome
he was not fevered anymore.

only left with a myriad of other problems. yet he thought he might overcome them. thought that if he pushed himself, he would be beyond the den in no time.

he could not say what compelled him to think walking by himself was a good idea. maybe the burning need to be beyond it. the need to not be sitting among four walls all day and thinking of things beyond himself.

it was in the slowest manner that he rose. crouched, really.

then immediately began to sway and he knew he'd be finding the earth soon if somebody was not there.

Careful, young one.

Kannoyak sprung forward, offering his shoulder as support to the boy. His eyes were intense with worry upon the stranger’s figure. The young wolf looked as though he had endured the worst of the world. Even Chakliux did not appear as wounded as this one. And to see that he was so young…

Ah, no. You are warrior boy! Not so young. Kannoyak is sorry, the white hunter tried to remedy. He doubted that this wolf wanted to hear another adult fussing over his wounds. He was in a place of healing, after all. There were no better grounds to be resting, to be regaining strength.

he wanted to snap.

yet he only felt himself give out and use the man as a post to slump down. ending back up on his gut again. muscles unused felt no need to hold his little weight.

his ears moved out and back some. his embarrassment showed in full in those moments and he sought to do anything to take attention off of himself.

you seal 'unter too?

his body remained stiff on the ground with a new coiling of pain.

The young wolf slumped against Kannoyak. The white hunter did not think he was weak for this. He helped to support him until the boy had found an odd place on the ground.

He had asked if Kannoyak was seal hunter, too. The man shook his head and chuckled at the question.

No, no, but Chakliux is brother. This one is called Kannoyak. Kannoyak is pathmaker and white grounds hunter.

The boy didn’t look good. He looked ready to burst from his flesh. There was a tightness to his spirit that could be felt in the room.

Are you hungry? he asked.

more things to learn.

more things that sunk like a stone in his gut somehow.

he could not handle the hand of kindness right now. it sparked him with something ugly.

no, spoken too sharp and too fast. his mouth closed and he felt the tip of his tongue pinch between teeth. a thing frequently done now.

he be 'ealed fast, you know.

bitterness met his voice in an ugly tangle.

The boy was quick to say that he wasn’t hungry.

He went on to speak of Chakliux and his healing process. Kannoyak was not deaf to the tone. He also was not bothered by it. In his youth, he had never experienced such a wound to his body. This one was brave to continue pushing forward. He was aged by his wounds and his experiences. These were things that his peers would not know. He carried that weight.

Chakliux did not have wounds so deep, the white hunter said in a warm rumbling voice.

Your spirit carries anger and darkness in it, warrior boy?

No sense in softening the question.

anger and darkness!

shardik breathed down his neck and he felt the hot rage of the past weeks. warrior boy, he could hear the haunting rumbles of the bear. the roar of the sea drowned his heart in his ears.

not warrior boy.

he remained sharp and now he childishly angled his head to turn away from the purple gaze of the man.

not anymore.

Kannoyak’s laugh was a rich sound.

Yes, you are still at war! With yourself.

The white man could see this. The young wolf fought internally. He struggled with the weight that he carried. How could he not? Such wounds were no small matter. He had survived something that another would have fallen to. Kannoyak did not know the details of his hurt. He did not know how the boy had lost his tail or bled out. He did not know any of these things. He knew only that the young wolf’s anger could be felt on the cold air.

Storm clouds billow in your spirit. Will there be lightning?

the man was too poetic.

it was like an elevated way of the seal hunter!

i dunno whatcha mean.

he grunted tiredly, the strain of his muscles proved troublesome in this position of slumped weight. yet he felt he did not have it in himself to properly move either.

Kannoyak looked knowingly on the boy.

It can devour you, warrior brother. You are not weak to suffer the weight of your wounds. It is hard to go on.

The white hunter did not want the young wolf to feel that his outlook on life needed to be so dismal. He had survived something. He had carried his life away from a horrible situation. This was cause for celebration, if he could find his way through the pain and fear and self-loathing. The boy had become even more interesting for Kannoyak. He wanted to see if a light would shine through these cracks.

What happened? Do you share the story?

this one called him warrior brother and not little brother.

he wondered if there was a difference. yet he hesitated to ask. unless he found himself overwhelmed with the sudden cultural burst of knowledge.

shardik.

the name hissed sourly between clenched teeth. perhaps it was a curse to keep speaking the name and yet he did not wish it to die. let everybody hear and see the warnings of the bear upon his flesh.

bear.

he motioned to the nubby tail he carried now too, if the man wished to see it in full.

The mention of Shardik canted the white wolf’s head. His curiosity turned his ears from right to left before the young wolf spoke again.

Bear.

The plum eyes of the hunter blinked with surprise. This boy had been attacked by a bear and he had escaped to share his story. Kannoyak was not shy about his wandering eyes. He searched the figure of the troubled young wolf. There were signs of the trauma that he carried. They weighed heavy on his young body and sunk his eyes into his skull.

Bear-touched, he said in his deep voice. Your spirit is strong.
